We’re based in Berlin but would consider hiring remotely for this role. If you do want to move to Berlin though, we’re happy to support your relocation. For lead roles, it would be beneficial to be able to travel to head office regularly for any important workshops and meetings.

As our Head of Platform, you’ll join and take ownership of our Platform team (together with Tech Lead Martin, and Platform Engineers Sergei and Rokas). This is a Lead of Leads type role meaning that the direct reports are Tech Leads leading their teams. The role reports directly to the CTO. You’ll play a critical role in helping steer and define the roadmap for our Platform Engineering together with your counterpart, the Platform Tech Lead, and collaborating with your stakeholders (CTO, Product Engineering Team Leads, etc.). You will drive the growth and design of what the Platform team needs to be at Upvest. Platform team’s objectives include creating a robust, secure, resilient, and observable infrastructure for our Product Engineering teams to build products on as well as provide all the needed tooling for them to be productive on the Platform.
Our principles include customer always first (in this case Product Engineering teams), infrastructure-as-code, security first, zero trust, and least privilege principles but most importantly the Platform team’s job is to enable and empower Product teams to deliver Products on the Platform in a more productive way. The platform team does this by mapping out Product teams’ requirements, formulating a roadmap and plans on what kind of tooling and automation needs to be in place, and executing on those plans. You'll own the roadmap and the backlog for the Platform team and the Tech Lead - Platform owns the design and implementation of those plans.
This role will give you the opportunity to:
Help build a world-class highly available Cloud-Native financial platform engineering department with modern technologies
Work within the department and your stakeholders to define and own the roadmap and vision for Platform Engineering at Upvest
Own and be accountable for the delivery for the Platform team.
Work in setting meaningful and measurable objectives for the department within our OKR-framework.
Collaborate with your stakeholders and Tech Lead counterparts to enable and empower Product Engineering teams to deliver at pace on the Platform.
Gain valuable experience in a high-security and high-stakes fintech environment
Drive DevOps mindset and collaboration within all Product Engineering teams
Establish communication and documentation best practices throughout the entire Platform
Provide operational support and engineering for multiple large distributed software applications
Gather and analyze system metrics to assist in improving performance and finding faults
Nice to have:
Experience in high growth environments. Organisational planning skills
Knowledge of our modern tech-stack (Go, Docker, K8s, Postgres, Redis, Kafka), SRE, service meshes, API gateways, and observability
Experience working in the fintech domain
